Latino Muslim Event in DC Museum

Nearly 50 guests came to the America's Islamic Heritage Museum (Washington DC) on March 17, 2012 to hear inspiring speakers discuss the legacy of Islamic Spain and its impact on contemporary, American Latino Muslim projects.  
  
Guest Speakers Included:

• From Andalus to El Barrio (NY): 

          -Omar Abdur-Rahim Ocasio (Former Imam of Alianza Islamica in NY)

• Latino Muslims: Service and Advocacy: 

          -Alejandro Beutel (Muslim Public Affairs Council)
          -Venessa Trigo (Muslims Without Borders)

Latino Outreach Event @ DAH

Nearly 40 guests from various faiths came to MY DAH Youth's Open Forum for Latino Family and Friends, "Bienvenidos".  

The goal is to conduct monthly projects to help support Latino Muslims as well as outreach to our Spanish speaking family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers.

Meeting Notes:  January 22, 2012 (6:00 PM)
Bienvenidos: Latino Outreach Project

• Informed group of Latino Event at American Muslim Museum in DC on March 10 or 17
• Group decided to have kick-off event at DAH on Sunday, February 26 from 5-7pm
• Panel to speak on their stories to Islam (Spanish and English)
• Informal setting with food and a lot of personal interactions
• Reserve parking for guests
• Inform/Educate the community ahead of time to prepare them for the visitors
• Allow event to pause for salah, so guests and see and inquire about the prayer
• Coordinate with Imam Johari
• Next Meeting is February 5, 2012 at 5:00 PM
